Landmark of Parisian nights, the Parrot Club is the wine bar of the Pub St Germain
Parrots and Hair!
The Parrot Club is located one level down from the Main Bar and opens onto “Cour du Commerce Saint-André” the oldest and most authentic Parisian arcade. With brick stone walls, industrial style decoration, velvet booths, hanging plants and dim lighting, you will immediately feel at ease. This room takes its name from an anecdote dating back to the original Pub St Germain, in May 68, at the beginning of France’s most famous strike and a period of social upheaval of historic proportion. It was founded by Jean-Claude Cassagne, a well-known character. The Parrot Club was home to a couple of real parrots released from captivity in the Pub. According to the legend, they were deported from England because they disrespected the Queen. Shocking!
Julien Clerc, who performed in Hair, an iconic musical of the hippie era, was one of the first regular customers. He was quickly joined by the flourishing artistic scene of the time and Paris who would queue up every evening in front of the Pub St Germain, thus becoming the unmissable meeting place for St Germain-style nights.
